This art work was created on a sculpture camp with W.A.C.I.T. in 2011 at Kirkalocka station. It was a large old rusty water tank that I drilled holes into to capture the sunlight at different times of the day. I was interested in recording the matriachial history of the station, which has been passed down through the women in the family, an unusual story in Australia. I tried to create the effect of a lacey collar by drilling holes into the already corroded water tank, to evoke the women’s plight in the early days often left to carry the water for the family from the well or tank sites.
